Our Values

  • Our Fraternity and Sorority Community

Greek Life is one of the many opportunities for involvement and growth available for students at Kent State University.  Greek Life offers opportunities for community service, philanthropy, academic success, leadership, campus involvement, personal growth, social interaction, and the development of life long friendships.

  • Brotherhood and Sisterhood

One of the most enjoyable parts of joining a fraternity or sorority involves making new friends and forming bonds that will last long after college.  Brotherhood and sisterhood mean more than wearing Greek letters, attending meetings, and going to social events.  Being in a fraternity or sorority gives you a sense of belonging.  Brotherhood and sisterhood are the making of friendships that will last a lifetime.  During the first semester of your membership with a fraternity or sorority, activities are designed to introduce you to your chapter’s history and traditions.  Activities include retreats, service projects, meetings, and study programs, and each will help you to build a strong foundation for your lifelong involvement and membership in Greek Life.

  • Scholarship

Academics is the most important part of your college career, and Greek Life at Kent State University recognizes the importance of scholarship and academic success.  Each sorority and fraternity has a minimum grade requirement for membership, ranging from 2.25-3.00, depending on the organization.  Kent State's fraternities and sororities want you to do well academically, and there are programs in place to help.  Each chapter has its own academic programs to ensure its members are achieving high scholarship. Peer tutoring, study buddies, and scholastic awards are among the academic initiatives within our community.

  • Philanthropy and Community Service

The desire and ability to give of yourself is one of the most important qualities you will develop while being part of a fraternity or sorority.  Fraternities and sororities sponsor a multitude of activities each year to impact the local community and to earn money for charitable organizations.  Chapters also donate their time to national and local community service projects.  In addition to supporting other chapters’ philanthropy events, the three Greek councils sponsor a number of philanthropies and community service projects throughout the year.  Additionally, a blood drive and a community service project are part of Greek Week each Spring.

  • Leadership Development

Membership in a fraternity or sorority provides numerous opportunities for leadership development, not only within your chapter but within the community.  By being a member of a Greek organization, you are introduced to endless leadership opportunities on campus and within Kent's community.  Undergraduate Student Government, special-interest clubs and organizations, pre-professional organizations, and intramural sports are some of the opportunities that you can be introduced to by being a part of Greek Life.

  • Networking

Being Greek also provides a resource network when seeking employment.  Greek Alumni understand the experience of being both a team player and an individual; the desire to excel, both in and out of the classroom; and the commitment to give something back to the community.  Greek Alumni often hire graduating fraternity and soority members, and in this changing world, it is important to establish relationships with others beyond the boundaries of the university.  Through interactions with Alumni, you can begin building bridges.
